Admission Requirements
Application and Fee
A request for admission for the 2018-2019 school year can be made by submitting a completed
application form and an application fee ($75) to the Admissions Office. Financial aid applicants
are not required to submit the application fee. The application fee is not refundable.
Families are advised to file their applications by December 1 in order to receive consideration
for placement the following September. Information concerning the possibility for new
enrollment in a grade that is not annually an entry grade is available from the Admissions
Office. Applications from those who wish to re-apply are not automatically carried forward
from year-to-year, but may be reactivated upon request.
Admissions Testing
No standardized testing is required for admission to Kindergarten or Grade 1.
All applicants for admission to Collegiate, Grades 2-4, must submit test results (ECAA) offered
by the Educational Records Bureau (ERB).
Applicants for Grades 5-12 must submit ERB (ISEE) test results. Upper School applicants may
substitute results from the SSAT.
For registration and additional information, please contact ERB at erblearn.org. Arrangements
for testing should be made at the time of application and the results should be sent to Collegiate School.
Please note: waivers for the testing fee are available for families submitting a financial aid application.
Please call the Admissions Office if you have any questions 212-812-8552.
School Records and RecommendationsAt the time the application for admission is made, the school at which the applicant is
enrolled should be asked to send the applicant’s school report/transcript to the Admissions Office.
In addition to the official school report/transcript, two current recommendations, one from an
English teacher and one from a
math teacher, are required of applicants for admission
to Grades 5-12.
Personal Letters of RecommendationPersonal letters of recommendation are not required. If letters are submitted, two
are sufficient.
EssaysApplicants for Grades 6-12 should submit a copy of a composition, term paper, or other
written assignment which includes feedback or has been graded by one of their current teachers.
Applicants are encouraged to submit an example of work that they consider their best or most
interesting. The grade the work has received is not important. The work should be at least
two paragraphs long.
Tour of the School and Interview
Parents of applicants and prospective applicants to Kindergarten - Grade 8 for the 2018-2019
academic year are invited to schedule a tour of the school by calling the Admissions Office.
These tours may be scheduled in advance of an applicant’s visit to the school. For grades that
are open for new enrollment (Kindergarten and Grades 5, 6, 7, 9), the Admissions Office will
contact the applicant’s family to schedule the required appointments after an application is
on file. Please note: While applications will be accepted until the December 1 deadline,
appointments for applicant visits to the school and interviews may be subject to an
appointment waitlist after the available appointments have been filled.
