Middle School

Assemblies
Bi-weekly assemblies bring Middle School students together to engage in programs which cover a broad range of subjects. These assemblies include guest speakers, a variety of student performances, drama productions and performances by outside groups.

Publications and Activities
Middle School boys choose from a variety of activities such as Student Government, Model U.N., Science Olympiad, and the online literary magazine, Jabberwock. In addition to seventh and eighth grade drama classes, Middle School students are offered the opportunity to participate in a sixth grade play in the fall and a seventh and eighth grade Shakespearian production in the winter.

Community Service
Community service is an intrinsic part of the Collegiate experience. As part of its mission, Collegiate is committed to guiding boys to develop habits of caring for and helping others. Middle School students participate in group community service projects and boys commonly come up with their own ideas about ways to serve one another and the wider community.

Drawing on their collective strengths, skills, personal interests, and relationships, Collegiate boys, their families, faculty, staff, and alumni work together to engage in service. Some examples from recent years include the following:
• Winter Coat Drive
• Project Cicero Book Drive
• Collegiate School Library Week
• Clean-up of Riverside Park
• Can-a-Day Food Drive
• Gift wrapping for the Stanley Isaacs Neighborhood Center

After-School Program
The Flying Dutchmen, Collegiate’s after-school program, offers courses such as chess, martial arts, drama, puppetry, tennis, computers, photography, science, cooking, and golf. Open to students in kindergarten through sixth grade, the program runs on a semester basis. Classes are held at Collegiate and at several off-campus locations.
